About The K9 Kitchen
The K9 Kitchen is a premium dog food brand dedicated to providing high-quality, tasty, nutritious meals and healthy treats for dogs of all types and ages. Our philosophy centres on the power of whole foods. We only use, human-grade ingredients. By focusing on raw, natural diets, we aim to fulfil the specific dietary requirements of each dog, ensuring they receive the optimal balance of nutrients in an easily digestible bioavailable form to enable them to thrive. Our mission is not just to feed dogs, but to nourish them with clinically formulated recipes that harness the inherent benefits of whole foods for optimal nutrition and health.
The K9 Kitchen was founded by Jan Almheiri and is a tale woven from the threads of necessity and love, centred around Sarhan, a regal feathered Saluki from Dubai, and his journey from ailment to wellness. From puppyhood, Sarhan was cherished, but as he matured, troubling health issues surfaced—skin rashes, ear infections, incessant paw-chewing, and a lost vibrancy that once defined him. Years of vet visits brought only fleeting relief through a parade of medications and special diets, yet Sarhan's condition persisted, his once lively essence fading.
The turning point came through advice from a fellow Saluki owner, suggesting a shift to a fresh, raw meat diet. Skeptical but driven by love, research began, uncovering the profound truth that whole foods were key to health. With no suitable pre-made options available, a homemade raw food diet was undertaken. The results were transformative: within days, Sarhan ceased his paw-chewing; within a week, his ear infections cleared; and in months, his coat fully restored, revealing that the root of his issues was his previous diet.
This revelation ignited a passion for understanding pet nutrition and the pet food industry's dark underbellies. As Sarhan's health visibly improved, it sparked curiosity and requests from others, seeking the same healthful transformation for their pets. Thus, The K9 Kitchen was born not from a desire for business but from a deep-seated wish to provide all dogs with the chance to live healthier, fuller lives.
In essence, The K9 Kitchen emerged from a simple yet profound journey of one dog's return to vitality, inspiring a mission to offer a better, healthier future for pets everywhere.
We're proud to be entirely made in the UAE, using only human food-grade ingredients from reputable sources. Our vet-formulated meals ensure nutritional completeness, delivering species-appropriate, bioavailable nutrients to enable dogs to thrive. At The K9 Kitchen we exclusively use premium human-grade ingredients, we even list the specific cuts used in each of our recipes. Our products and our packaging are wholly made in the UAE. We prepare our food in a licensed human-grade kitchen, (not a factory), in Dubai, guaranteeing that our safety and hygiene matches the high standards of human food production. We do not outsource; we make each product ourselves allowing us full control and knowledge of every ingredient in our recipes. This commitment to quality enables us to trace every product from the farm directly to your dog's bowl, offering unmatched transparency and trust in pet nutrition. Each recipe is expertly formulated by veterinarians, and we are fully registered with Dubai Economic Department, Dubai Municipality, and MOCCAE. Our commitment to transparency, sustainability, and the health of your pets sets us apart.
Yes. We are fully approved by The Department of Economy & Tourism in Dubai, Dubai Municipality and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
We are also proud to be members of Raw Feeding Veterinary Society (RFVS)
About our Food
Meals in our Complete Range are vet formulated to ensure the combined ingredients in each recipe exceed the minimum nutritional standards as set by FEDIAF (European Pet food Industry Federation) In addition to being nutritionally complete our meals are also balanced. This means that important ratios between specific micronutrients are optimally balanced. Examples of key micronutrient ratios are - Omega 3:Omega 6, Calcium:Phosphorous
In addition, we verify the nutritional content of our meals further with nutritional software and food laboratory testing.
Simply describes our range where each recipe only contains single source ingredients. i.e. Simply Beef only contains prime cuts of beef, Simply CamEe only contains prime cuts of camel etc. Our Simply range is great for those following an elimination diet, for raw feeding DIY’ers or for dogs with food sensitivities. It’s important to know that our Simply Range is a complementary food and should be fed alongside other food types to ensure their dogs are receiving all the nutrients they require.
Yes, you can. (with the exception of our Chicken & Duck Complete and our Simply Chicken & Simply Duck). This is because we use powdered eggshell, rather than ground bones, as a natural and highly bioavailable source of calcium.
Although cooking is not essential, after all humans are the only species who cook their food, cooking can entice fussy eaters, may be preferential for dogs experiencing GI issues, provides variety in food taste and texture to dogs and may satisfy an owners personal preferences.
However, cooking can change the nutritional profile of food and therefore its important not to overlook and not to cook at very high temperatures.
You can cook from frozen or after defrosted.
The recommended cooking method is using a slow cooker. This method of cooking uses lower temperatures but longer time and preserves the maximum nutrients.
You can also cook in the oven (cook at 180oC for 35 minutes if cooking from frozen or for 20minutes if already defrosted).
Or you can gently brown our food on the stove top on a low to medium heat for approx. 5 minutes.
Remember to allow any cooked food to cool before serving to your dog. Cooked food can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Yes.
Our sourcing practices reflect our core values of Integrity, Quality, Honest & Transparent. Great food can only come from great ingredients and higher quality ingredients have higher quality nutrients.
All our ingredients are human food grade. We do not use offcuts, leftovers, spoiled goods or any ‘mystery meats’. We share suppliers with many 5-star hotels, restaurants, and supermarkets. In addition to being hormone and antibiotic free, our meats are whole prime cuts which we mince ourselves and to which we do not add any water or bulking agents (sadly this is a practice in many premade foods). All our dry ingredients are organic, and we ensure they have been ethically harvested and processed. You will see from our ingredients that we rarely need to add supplements and when we do we ensure they are in their organic and pure form.
We recommend a slow, yet simple, transition to raw. Start by switching out a spoon of your dog’s current food and replacing it with their food from The K9 Kitchen. Slowly increase the amount of The K9 Kitchen food whilst decreasing their current food type until your dog is fully transitioned. For most dogs the transition is smooth sailing and within 7-10 days they are fully transitioned. However, some may experience minor tummy upsets. If this happens with your dog slow down the transition some dogs can take upto 3-4 weeks until they are fully transitioned. If you are experiencing difficulties with your dog’s transition, please contact us for help.
Raw feeding for dogs, based on a nutritionally complete, balanced and biologically appropriate diet of raw foods, offers numerous benefits, including improved dental health through natural cleaning from raw bones, enhanced nutritional content with more naturally retained enzymes, vitamins, and minerals, and healthier skin and coat due to natural fats and oils. Additionally, it can provide relief from food sensitivities, support weight management with a leaner body mass through high protein content, improve digestion for smaller and firmer stools, increase energy levels and potentially lead to better behaviour by aligning more closely with natural eating habits.
Choose The K9 Kitchen for our unparalleled quality and care in every meal. We are committed to providing your beloved pets with only the finest nutrition. Unlike many, we craft all our products in-house in a commercial human food kitchen, guaranteeing that every meal is prepared with the same care you'd give to food for your family. Fully licensed by the DED, DM, and MOCCAE, our commitment to excellence is unmatched. At The K9 Kitchen, we are more than a brand; we are true animal lovers who always place the quality and benefits of our products ahead of profit. Trust us to provide your pets with the nourishment they deserve, because at The K9 Kitchen, it's not just food; it's a labour of love.
Absolutely! At The K9 Kitchen, our products are crafted with minimally processed, fresh wholefood ingredients that are often easier for dogs to digest than heavily processed foods. Choosing The K9 Kitchen means providing your dog with a diet that supports their health and overall vitality from the inside out.
To ensure a smooth transition to our raw diet, we recommend gradually introducing our food into your dog’s current diet. Start by mixing a small amount of The K9 Kitchen’s raw food with your dog's existing food and very gradually increasing the proportion. For dogs with sensitive tummies the transition can take several weeks. This method helps your dog’s digestive system adjust gently and effectively.
If your dog is sensitive to some ingredients, The K9 Kitchen is here to ensure your pet still enjoys nutritious, high-quality meals without compromising their health. Our commitment to using human-grade ingredients and crafting meals in our own commercial kitchen allows us the flexibility to adjust recipes to meet your dog's unique requirements. With meals formulated by veterinarians, we can tailor our offerings to avoid allergens or ingredients that cause sensitivities in your dog. We encourage you to reach out to us with your pet’s dietary restrictions. Our team is dedicated to working with you to identify and create a meal plan that not only avoids sensitive ingredients but also enriches your dog's diet with the nutrients they need to thrive. At The K9 Kitchen, your pet’s health and satisfaction are our top priorities, ensuring they receive the best care and nutrition tailored just for them.
The topic of raw feeding for dogs is complex, with varying opinions among veterinarians. It's important to understand that many veterinarians are not opposed to the principle of feeding pets minimally processed, high-quality foods. The concern lies more with ensuring that any diet, including raw, meets the pet's nutritional needs safely and effectively. Open dialogue between pet owners and their veterinarians about diet and nutrition can help navigate these concerns, ensuring the best outcome for the pet's health and well-being. Below, we have listed the most common concerns your vet may have and some information to address these and highlight the benefits. By sharing information about The K9 Kitchen’s commitment to high-quality, safe, and nutritionally balanced raw diets, you can help your vet understand the benefits and support a healthy dialogue about raw feeding for your pet. We are also happy to talk directly with your vet to explain our products and processes and help them understand the benefits of our approach to vibrant health through nutrition.
- Nutritional Balance Assurance: One of the primary concerns vets have is ensuring that pets receive a nutritionally complete and balanced diet. Unless carefully formulated, raw diets can lack essential nutrients or have imbalanced ratios of vitamins and minerals necessary for a dog's health. Raw diets from trusted sources like The K9 Kitchen are carefully formulated to provide complete and balanced nutrition, addressing vets' concerns about essential nutrients.
- Risk of Bacterial Contamination: Another oft-cited concern is the perceived risk of bacterial contamination, as raw meat can harbour pathogens like salmonella and E. coli. You can assure your vet that The K9 Kitchen takes stringent measures to ensure its raw products are safe and free from harmful pathogens like Salmonella and E. coli, protecting both pets and humans.
- Emerging Research: Another reason veterinarians are sceptical is the lack of extensive, peer-reviewed research on the benefits and risks of raw diets compared to traditional commercial diets. In fact, several scientific studies have been undertaken that have confidently proved the benefits of a well-formulated raw diet. Comprehensive studies on raw diets are growing, too. The K9 Kitchen supports ongoing research and development to provide evidence-based benefits, helping to build trust with veterinarians.
A growing number of veterinarians fully support a well-formulated raw diet for dogs, recognizing its potential health benefits when properly managed. These vets point to emerging research and their clinical experiences, noting improvements in dogs' skin and coat health, digestion, and overall vitality. Studies, such as those conducted by the University of Exeter and the University of Illinois, provide scientific backing for these observations, highlighting the nutritional adequacy and health benefits of raw diets. These veterinarians emphasize the importance of sourcing high-quality, pathogen-free raw ingredients and ensuring that diets are nutritionally balanced.
For Frozen goods:
- Upon Arrival: Your products will arrive frozen to ensure freshness and maintain the highest quality. Upon receiving your order, please place the meals directly in the freezer. Our meals are safe to store in the freezer for up to 4 months.
- Before Serving: When you're ready to serve your pet a delicious meal from The K9 Kitchen, plan ahead! Transfer the meal from the freezer to the refrigerator for defrosting approximately 24 hours before it's mealtime. This slow defrosting process helps maintain the meal's nutritional integrity and ensures it's safely thawed for your pet to enjoy.
- Storing Unused Food: If there are any leftovers or if you've defrosted a bit more than your pet can eat, you can store the unused portion in the refrigerator. Make sure to use any refrigerated, unused food within 48 hours to ensure it remains fresh and safe for your pet to consume.
Always seal or cover the unused portion well when storing in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and prevent any odours from spreading.
For our dried goods – Reseal pack after use to maintain freshness. Store in a cool, dry place. Once open use within 2 weeks.
Yes, you can. Although this practice is not favoured by many raw feeders, we believe that even by replacing at least 20% of a dog’s diet with wholesome fresh food your dog will get health benefits.
Determining the right amount of food for your dog depends on various factors, including their age, weight, breed, and activity level. When feeding your dog with The K9 Kitchen's premium food, we've made it easy to ensure they're getting exactly what they need for optimal health. We provide detailed feeding guidelines on each label, tailored to support your dog’s nutritional needs at every stage of life. These guidelines are designed to help you adjust meal portions based on your dog's specific requirements, including their:
Age: Puppies have different nutritional needs compared to adult and senior dogs, requiring more frequent meals packed with nutrients essential for growth. That is why we have clinically developed puppy food.
Weight and Breed: The size of your dog significantly impacts the amount of food they require, with larger breeds needing more than their smaller counterparts.
Activity Level: Active dogs and those with higher energy expenditures may need additional food to maintain their energy levels, while less active dogs might require less to prevent weight gain.
We recommend starting with the portion sizes suggested on our packaging and observing your dog's physical condition and energy levels. If you notice any changes in your dog’s weight or overall health, it may be necessary to adjust their food intake accordingly. Remember, these guidelines are a starting point, and every dog is unique.
If you’re new to raw feeding, you might find the portion sizes we recommend surprisingly small when compared to conventional dry or canned dog food. This is because our food is significantly richer in nutrients. Whereas typical pet foods rely on fillers like corn, wheat, rice, beet pulp, soybean, lentils, peas or potatoes to bulk up the product, resulting in lower protein content, our raw food boasts a 70-80% fresh whole meat composition, packed with high-quality protein. Consequently, your dog requires less quantity to meet their nutritional needs—it's as straightforward as that.
Remember to factor in treats when considering your dog's total daily intake.
If you're unsure about the quantities or your dog's dietary needs—whether they need a bit more to satisfy a higher metabolism, or less to achieve a healthier weight—don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to assist. Additionally, if you notice any significant or rapid changes in your dog's weight, it's wise to consult with your vet, as it could indicate an underlying health issue. At The K9 Kitchen, your pet's health and happiness are our priority, and we're committed to supporting you in providing the best care possible.

It's not uncommon for some pets to be hesitant when trying new foods. Here are a few tips to help. Start by mixing a small amount of the new food with their current food, gradually increasing the proportion of the new food over several days. This gradual transition can help them adjust to the taste and texture of their new diet.
Some pets might be put off by cold food directly from the refrigerator. Adding a little warm water or bone broth to bring the food up to room temperature may help. You can gently brown the meat to bring out the aroma. Don’t overcook and let any cooked food cool off before serving to your dog. Patience is crucial as every pet adapts at their own pace. If challenges persist, please get in touch, we're here to offer personalized advice, supporting your pet’s transition ensuring they not only accept their new diet but thrive on it.

Our commitment to using only human food-grade ingredients from licensed suppliers means every product is government inspected and certified fit for human consumption. Feeding your pet with our raw food is as simple and safe as preparing your own family's dinner! Here are a few easy and positive steps to ensure safe handling:
Clean Surfaces: Before and after preparing your pet's meal, make sure to clean all countertops and cutting boards. This keeps your kitchen hygienic and ready for your next cooking adventure.
Use Separate Equipment: If possible, use separate utensils and dishes for your pet’s food to avoid cross-contamination. Having a dedicated set for your pet's meals can make this process even smoother.
Wash Your Hands: Just as you would after handling raw meat for your family, thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water after preparing your pet's food. This simple step is crucial for keeping everyone in the home healthy.
Wash Your Dogs Bowl: After each meal thoroughly wash your pets bowl as you do your own plates and utensils after use.
Storage: Keep raw food properly stored in the refrigerator or freezer until it's mealtime to ensure it stays fresh and safe.
If your food has only thawed a little around the outside then yes you can refreeze. However, if it’s totally defrosted it will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.
