Hi, we’re Jan & Amy
The K9 Kitchen started the way most good things do, with love, and just a little bit of obsession.
For us, it began at home, with Jan’s own dogs. We wanted to feed them better. To know exactly what was going into their bowls. To give them food that genuinely supported their health and their happiness.
It Started With One Dog
More than twenty years ago, my Saluki Saffron was struggling with allergies and infections, itchy skin, chewed paws, and a coat that wouldn’t grow back. I tried everything. Nothing truly worked.
Then someone suggested fresh feeding. As a lifelong vegetarian it felt completely alien to me but when you love your dog, you’ll try anything. Within days of changing her food, the difference was remarkable. Her coat returned, her health transformed. That one dog taught me something I’ve never forgotten: food isn’t just fuel, it’s the foundation of health.
Growing the pack
What began with Saffron grew, quietly, over many years. First our own dogs noticed the difference, then friends did, then customers did too. From the exact same food for you, now it’s no good enough for our own dogs, it’s not good enough for yours.
For a long time we built The K9 Kitchen together behind the scenes, Amy shaping the brand while still in the corporate world. Jan perfecting the food. Now Amy has stepped fully into what was always a real passion.
We bring different strengths to the same bowl. Jan leads on nutrition, developing recipes that support pets’ health in a way that actually means something. Amy builds the brand, the experience and the community around it, making it easier for more pet parents to discover a better way to feed their dogs and cats.
Underneath it all, we believe the same thing: Pets deserve better.
