At The K9 Kitchen, we’re dedicated to helping you make the switch to fresh feeding a smooth, positive experience for both you and your dog. Our gradual transition approach allows you to introduce fresh food slowly, helping your dog’s system adjust while you monitor how they’re adapting.

We recommend beginning by swapping 10% of your dog’s current food with fresh food from The K9 Kitchen, keeping the remaining 90% as their current diet. This gradual shift helps your dog’s digestive system acclimate without disruption.
Days 1-2: Replace 10% of your dog’s current food with fresh, keeping 90% of their usual food.
Days 3-4: Increase to 25% fresh food, reducing their regular food to 75%.
Days 5-6: Move up to 50% fresh food and 50% current food.
Days 7-8: Increase to 75% fresh food, with 25% current food.
Days 9-10: Serve 90% fresh food and only 10% current food.
Day 11 and beyond: Your dog is now ready to enjoy a 100% fresh diet!
Most dogs can comfortably transition to a fully fresh diet within 7-10 days.

Every dog’s experience with a new diet is unique. Pay close attention to how your dog responds at each step. Here’s what to look for:
Digestion
If you notice your dog has loose stools or slight constipation, don't panic,
this is simply a sign to slow down the transition and take it at a slower pace.
Energy and Vitality
Expect to see your dog show increased energy levels as they adapt to raw feeding such as more playful behaviour, longer walks, and a general zest for life.
Skin and Coat
You will start to notice improvements in coat shine and skin health. Gradually, your dog's fur will become softer and more glossy, while their skin will be healthier and less prone to irritations.

If your dog has a sensitive stomach or a condition like IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) or leaky gut, a slower transition is essential. Adjust the process to fit their needs—adding fresh food at only 5% intervals every few days or even weekly as needed.
Patience is key
Dogs with sensitive systems may need a few weeks to adjust fully. Maintaining a consistent routine can aid in the transition and promote
a sense of stability for your pet.
Adapt the diet
Some dogs benefit from the addition of gentle probiotics or digestive enzymes. If you would like to find out more we can guide you in
choosing the best options.

The most important part of this process is to follow your dog’s cues. Every dog is different, and factors like age, breed, and health can impact the transition timeline. If your dog has any lingering digestive issues or you’re unsure of their response, we’re just a message away.

At The K9 Kitchen, we’re here to support you every step of the way. If you have questions, concerns, or just want some extra guidance, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Our goal is to make this journey easy, healthy, and rewarding for both you and your dog.

Not ready to go full fresh?
That’s ok! We believe that even by replacing at least 20% of a dog’s diet with wholesome fresh food your dog will get health benefits. Remember, every little bit counts towards a healthier, happier pup!
